A family legend has it that, as a child, if I had had my way, I would have been happy for my grandmother to take me to London Zoo every day. Animals and birds look so different from us, and a constant source of wonder. We recognise them by the names we have given them. What is it like to look at them without naming them.
As an adult, I would go to the animal and bird sancturies to experience and draw the extrodinary shapes and forms found there. An entrance ticket to the zoo, with hours of possible exploration time and with all its diversity was cheaper than hiring a model.
